The aim of Emilia Lajunen and Suvi Oskala as a duo was clear from the start: to search for great fiddle tunes from the archives – both written and audio – and to make the music of the old fiddler’s their own. This was the starting point from which they formed their chamber folk duo 2010. Before that they had played together in various projects eg. Piia Kleemola & co and in dance and music production ’Silmu’ which fascinated audiences with its dancing fiddle players in Finland during years 2004-2007.
In addition to their interest in tradition they also share a passion for the inventive use of their five stringed instruments which makes this fiddle duo very unique. As a result of these two passions their repertoire as a duo consists of Finnish fiddle traditions gems arranged with a twist and of commission compositions by eg. Mikael Marin of Väsen and accordionist Johanna Juhola.
After the release of their second album [’Piilokisa’ by Nordic Notes] in 2018 they were selected as one of WOMEX official showcase artists in 2019. During their career they have actively performed at various stages in Finland and abroad in the Nordic countries, India and even South Korea.

Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala duo is comprised of two fiddle players, both established and widely renowned Finnish folk musicians, who combine their knowledge of Finnish folk tradition with masterful fiddle playing. The duo plays their fiddles for all they are worth, continuing the two-woman exploration into the world of different timbres they began in 2010. Their repertoir offers powerful playing and visionary interpretations of both traditional tunes and commission compositions combined with the duo’s rich and unique sound.
During their career, the two fiddlers have played in Finland, China, South Korea, India and the Nordic countries, among others. In 2019, they were one of the showcase artists at the WOMEX world music expo. The duo have also been noted for their cycling tours: they won the special award for their carbon-free bike tours at the annual Finnish Ethnogala in 2020.
The duo’s third album ‘Toisjalkainen’ was released in spring 2024 by Nordic Notes which also released their second album ‘Piilokisa’ in 2018. Their first album ‘Tyttörinki’ was released in 2012.

Duo Emilia Lajunen & Suvi Oskala on kahden vahvasti persoonallisen viulistin duo. Yhtyeen soittajat ovat tahoillaan ansioituneita ja monesta yhteydestä tunnettuja kansanmuusikoita, joiden soitannassa perinnetuntemus kohtaa virtuoottisen viulun sahauksen. Duo ottaa soitossaan kaiken irti viisikielisistä viuluistaan, joiden sointivärien maailmaan yhtye on ollut yhteisellä tutkimusmatkalla jo vuodesta 2010. Duon ohjelmisto koostuu vahvasta soitannasta sekä näkemyksellisestä ja saundeiltaan rikkaasta tulkinnasta niin perinteisistä sävelmistä kuin tilaussävellyksistä.
Kaksikko on uransa aikana esiintynyt Suomen lisäksi mm. Kiinassa, Etelä-Koreassa, Intiassa sekä Pohjoismaissa ja vuonna 2019 heidät nähtiin WOMEX-maailmanmusiikkimessujen showcase-artistina. He ovat olleet esillä myös toteuttamiensa pyöräkiertueiden tiimoilta ja duo palkittiin vuoden 2020 Etnogaalassa Vuoden ilmiö -erityismaininnalla hiilidioksidipäästöttömistä pyöräkiertueistaan.

‘Toisjalkainen’-levyn julkaisee saksalainen Nordic Notes -levy-yhtiö, joka julkaisi myös yhtyeen edellisen Piilokisa-levyn. Ensilevynsä ‘Tyttörinki’ duo julkaisi vuonna 2012. Samana vuonna yhtye voitti Konsta Jylhä -kilpailun perinnesarjan I:n palkinnon sekä sai erikoismaininnan perinnetuntemuksesta.
