Teacher


Teaching is an integral part of Emilia Lajunen’s career as a musician. She has been teaching traditional fiddle since 1998 for students of all levels, from beginners to professionals, from children to adults, from summer schools to universities. In the folk music department of Sibelius Academy Helsinki Uniarts of Arts she started as head of violin in 2010, teaching nowadays also nyckelharpas.

As a pedagogue Emilia Lajunen specialises in Finnish traditional fiddle styles, musician embodiment, simultaneous dancing and playing and the use of old runosong, kantele and jouhikko material in modern violin and nyckelharpa playing.

Lajunen has also given workshops for example about fiddle chopping technique, improvisation, musician’s simultaneous dancing and playing and duo playing. She has worked as a teacher on Finnish Folk Music Association summer courses for children and youth since 2011 (2011-2015, 2018-2022, 2024) and on Orivesi Folk Music courses in 2014, 2021 and 2024. Emilia has worked also on some Haapavesi Folk Music Courses and she has visited as guest teacher and jury member abroad (Austria, Sweden).
